Welcome back to our journey through the Chakras and Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Today we will explore the Sacral Chakra and the Hierarchy of Security. For today’s intention, let us set aside preconceived notions and allow for new understandings to develop. Are you ready to open up and perhaps feel something new? Amazing, I am excited to embark on today’s adventure with you.
Last time we met, we spoke about our physiological needs and ways to meet the vital need of air through breathing exercises. Today we will explore safety through the lens of emotional security and later on, some ways of moving through emotions in a creative manner.
Abraham Maslow wrote about Safety and Security as a vital way to reach self actualization. On the second level of the famous pyramid lies the multifaceted need for Security. This includes financial security, familiar security, and emotional security. Security can be defined as ‘the state of being free from danger or threat’. While it is important to create external security, the idea of internal security can be more elusive. I believe that internal security comes from knowing that, REGARDLESS of what emotions come up, I have the power and tools to navigate and move through them. This kind of emotional security can be developed in numerous ways. It requires a willingness, open-minded perspective, and courage to try things that may seem weird or quirky at first. It also is achieved in so many ways for all different types of people. So if one idea does not work for you, please do not get discouraged. The journey has many roads and I am confident that if you seek, you will ultimately gain tools that will be your own way of navigating the waters of your unique internal storms.
Let’s look at the Sacral Chakra. Do you recall how the Chakras are energetic wheels of energy that are spoken of as ‘on the spine? This is not a physical placement, but rather a sense of where the root for each wheel begins to express itself within our physical being. The Sacral Chakra, or Svadhisthana, lies above the pubic bone and underneath the naval. You can read more about this in Michelle Fondin’s Article “Awaken Your Creativity Chakra: Svadhisthana. For the purpose of our journey today, let us explore the aspect of this Chakra that affects creative expression. Synced to the frequency of Orange Light, Svadhisthana has water-like properties and so it is our center of fluid movement. Have you experienced the feeling of being involved in a project and feeling like your entire being was overtaken by a sense of connection to that activity and you had no doubts about what to do next? This phenomenon occurs often in athletes and artists and is referred to as ‘being in flow’. This creative expression may seem elusive to most people. However, do not worry, in our next post I propose a simple way to feel this for yourself.
Are you intrigued? If so, stay tuned for our next post in which we will seek ways of connecting to our tools to develop emotional security in a creative manner.
